Visiting Members

Welcoming 2 visiting students from Imperial College London

Dr Matt Kasoar is visiting from the Department of Physics at Imperial College London, where he is part of the Leverhulme Centre for Wildfires, Environment and Society, of which the Technical University of Crete is an affiliate member.  He works on modelling wildfires and their impact on the atmosphere and climate, and on exploring ways in which we can improve our understanding and modelling of fire in the earth system.  Dr Kasoar is working with the group of Dr Apostolos Voulgarakis in the School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering at TUC to build deeper collaboration on the cutting-edge wildfire research being carried out at the Technical University of Crete and at Imperial College London through the Leverhulme Centre, such as with the sharing of modelling expertise and datasets, and discussions on ongoing research projects that can inform one another.

Haleema Mishal is undertaking fieldwork in Crete, firstly she is looking at public preferences for a wildfire mitigation programme that can be used to understand the cost of wildfires on the island. Secondly, she will be undertaking interviews with experts and stakeholders to investigate their attitudes to wildfires in Crete and understand the effects of misinformation, trust in institutions and politics on social capital.
